About to buy a GXP
I am currently looking at getting an 06 GXP. It has 82k on it, fully loaded, with nav and k&n intake. it needs new front tires and the HUD does not seem to work on it. I can't tell if it is the front right tire making strange sounds or if it is the wheel bearing yet, I need to drive it one more time to see. My question is, does the 5 year warranty transfer to any owner, if it does would it cover the HUD issue and if it is the wheel bearing that also? I am in love with the car! I still have a set of ported LS1 heads laying in my garage too, I need to get them fixed so if I do get it I can put those on. They are asking 10,500 for the car, I am going to see if they will put new front tires on it at least for me. I find out monday if I am able to get it.

I need 4 doors for easy access to hauling the kid around. I think I will be getting a warranty for it. The good part is that my dad owns an auto mechanics shop and I work at a NAPA auto parts store.

Yeah, 06's didn't get the 5/100. They only had the 3/36 still. In '07, they got the 5/100.
Suppose I wish I would've thought about that before buying my '06 a few days ago, but I really couldn't be happier for what I paid for it. With what I saved, it'll just get a TEP street/strip when the trans lets go.

How much did you pay for yours? Also, could someone confirm if the stock ls1 cam fits in the ls4? That does kind of suck that the 06 doesn't come with the real good warranty. I will have to see how much it costs and go from there.

Of course, since the in-service date was 11/23/05, I'm now out of warranty and hoping for the best.
Anyway, I think $10,500 is way to high for that car with those miles and issues. I paid $13k from a dealer for Impala with 30k miles almost 2 years ago. I know the GXPs typically have higher resale than the Impala SSs, but the difference isn't THAT big.
If you can't them down a couple grand, I'd move on and try to find a lower mileage example.
As for the cam, I'm pretty sure LS1 cam is actually smaller than the one our cars come with stock. You might want to search this forum on this topic because unless you're prepared to do SERIOUS mods in ADDITION to the cam, the benefits are far outweighed by the time, cost, and effort it takes to swap a cam into a V8-powered FWD car.

Yeah, looking around here, the one I ended up with was one of the cheapest. There was one with 69k miles for another grand (sold before I had a chance to look at it), and there was one with 81k miles (that 'bleen' color) for a grand less, but I didn't trust that one as it was some shady dealer that didn't do Carfax.
Miles are a bit on the high side, but my wife and I are going to roll the wheels off of it, and I do all my own work anyways. Only concern I have is the trans, but picking up a TEP one for $1650 when this one goes isn't that horrible.

I know it is higher mileage, my issue is that my credit is horrible and my current car is about ready to fall apart. I drive 100 miles round trip 3 days a week to school and my 1990 oldsmopile is starting to have way to many issues to fix. I have a decent down payment for one and I have seen GXPs with 150,000 and the 5.3 in the silverados is similar to this 5.3 and they go over 300,000k with the right maintenance.
In all honesty, if reliability is a major concern, an LS4 may not be the best choice. These aren't bad cars, but they do have their issues that can sometimes be quite pricey to fix.

They are just as reliable as any other car out there as long as you take care of them I bet though. My dad can rebuild these transmissions so it is not a huge concern to me.

Something that wasn't brought up is gas mileage. These cars are enjoyable on long rides but they are thirsty.
You say you drive a few hundred miles to school. I would get a more efficient car and something that wouldn't attract too much attention while attending school. Save the GXP for when you graduate. But that's just me.
