Powdercoating Alcoa's?

Powdercoating Alcoa's?
Good/bad idea? I always like others' input on these things, so I ask a lot of questions.. My Dark Cherry Metallic GXP is a hard color to work with, so I might just black everything else out, like the rims.. I'd have to have them sandblasted, right? Anyone know of anyone who has done this to the stock Alcoa's?
I've thought of black chrome, too, but I hear there's a lot of prep work involved and get's very costly...

I have the same exact car as you and also kicked this idea around. I know a guy locally who has a white GXP with powder coated Alcoas and that looks amazing.... This thread is getting me motivated to get this done lol

Yaa, I'd love to get something done to them.. I live in Southern Ontario, Canada, right across the Ambassador Bridge from Detroit.. I don't know if anyone on this side of the border who can black chrome them, and from what I hear it is VERY expensive.. Realistically, black powdercoating would probably be the route I take..
Sheen? Lol
I'm the smartest car guy.. I just stuff.. Lol

For the second phase of my car's life I am going with powder coated graphite, with the metallic gray SS inserts and black headlights.
Try just painting them first to see if you like it - if not have them blasted and repolished.

Well, Calichrome (In California........ Lol) Will do it $175/rim for 18's.. Buuuttt.. Shipping my 4 rims out to Cali from Canada will be too costly.. Mind you, jay leno goes there for his chroming.. Still tossing ideas around.. Might just blast them and paint them myself and see what happens.. Could always retry..

Don't sandblast your wheels. GM uses a very weak aluminum in their wheels, and I remember when I looked into getting my MCSS wheels powder coated, numerous people told me they needed to be hand sanded. The blasting process removes too much of the soft aluminum to where the structural integrity of the wheel is compromised.

Do any of you know how powdercoated wheels hold up to winter and salt? I have definitely toyed with this also, but no one has been able to answer if they hold up better than say factory clear coat.

Sooo, paint strip, hand sand and paint? I might be doing this very soon.. I'm sick of my stock GXP.. Ordering poly mount tomorrow, too.. Still on a search for tires.. I have zero luck..
