700r4 swap
I searched and I couldnt find my answer, but was wondering if a 700r4 from an 88-92 third gen camaro would bolt up to our 4th gens. The one in my 93 is shot. As long as it has a 30-spline input shaft, will it still bolt right in?
It give me some more options.
Thanks
Mike

A 4L60 (no E) is a 700R4. GM just changed the designation for 1993. The '93 F-Body unit has different valve body, spacer plate, and lock-up wiring than any previous 700R4, though. The reverse input housing is also specific to 1993.
[snipped from a note Frank @ CPT sent me a few years back]
So, the 700R4 should bolt up, but will require a different pigtail.
I've seen it done, but I don't know the details.
You might try the automatic trans section, there are guys there who've done all sorts of swaps.

i have an '88 firebird with a '93 LT1 in it. the tranny i'm using is a '91 700r4. there are only 3 wires going to a 700R4, where the 4L60 had 5 wires going to it. i used the factory LT1 harness, but painless told me that i could find the 2 wires that are not used on the 700R4 and just tie them back, since you gotta use the 700r4 pigtail. the driveshafts are the same for '82 through 2002 V8 autos and manuals. the v6 4th gen is a little different i think. and yes, the bell housing for a v6 and v8 700r4 are different...when i was working on the swap, there was a lot of discussion about that.
