Car wont start! Help needed

Car wont start! Help needed hi everyone,
my cousins 94 z28 died on him last friday; while he was driving the engine starting to sound like it had a heads and cam package, there was popping coming from the exhaust, SES came on, barely any throttle response. he couldnt go above 40mph then 20mph and so on then he just shut off the car.
btw it has an msd vented opti; upon inspection he noticed that the 2 vacuum lines for the opti where both split in two, one half was missing and the other halves where just dangling. we replaced the vacuum lines today and shot electronic parts cleaner into the opti, it took 4 long cranks for it to start, while running the SES light was still on but the engine sounded normal, we shut it down and now it wont start backup.
anyone have an suggestions before we have to go through another painful opti install process?
