ls1 lid conversion
Since i got some money in the bank im ready to mod, anyways. Do you actually use an ls1 lid. Or do you buy them pre-made for lt1s cause i went to slp an jegs an can't find lids for our cars. Someone hook me up with a site or if your interested in selling one pm me

is it worth it, YES very nice mod that works!
quite a few that have done this mod reported gains that were compared at the track using cai then to the lid and picked up more ET and MPH.........
of course you will have those that NEVER did this mod but they were told by their best friends cousin that has an uncle that has an engineer friend of their momma that dated a brain surgeon that said he did not feel a gain in performance.....LOL (can't wait to see the next answers)

this is one of the most controversial questions in the f body community. personally i back the CAI. dont feel like spending more money on a ram air setup. but to answer your question yes you use an LS1 lid. LT1 lids aren't made.

If you have a camaro with a stock hood its not just a bolt on deal.... you need to cut holes in the rad support metal, and trim the LS1 lower airbox just to get it to sit flush. I spent a few hours on this and have a cowl type aftermarket hood and it still didn't close. A few guys like MERV have done a LS1 lid with no lower part by making some sort of custom holder for it but that seems less of a factory look and I wonder how it is for cleaning the filter or doing other work. I'd generally agree on the buy a decent CAI meant for LT1 cars first.

To answer your question, just call up jegs and ask for the SLP LS1 lid for the 98-02 camaros/trans ams or use your buddys lid, do a search on here there are several write ups to doing it.
Although I am (once it starts warming up) try and get a ls1 base and lid under a glassteck cowl, but I am going to be doing trimming on the underside of the hood along with the core support and base

i did mine about a week ago. I havent brought it to the track yet because it is still in pieces. Now i didnt trim the lower intake box. i just made my core support flat like the LS1 core support. Its not bad if you dont mind using a 2X4 and a hammer on your car. I did have to drill two new hole and tap them out but the outer holes match up to the outer bolt holes.
The thread that ss.slp.ls1 posted up has pictures of what mine looks like finished

I did it a few months back, and felt a little bit up top. Mine's still not 100% finished though. I need to make a new radiator cover out of some aluminum, or possibly sheet metal. Right now, the filter just sits on the notch I cut out of the core support, and it's screwed into the back of the lid, to hold it up back there. It's a nice mod, and actually cheaper than a CAI. I got my lid for $100shipped and a used K&N filter for $25shipped. Then, I just bought a K&N recharge kit to make it as good as new. The rest is all just a little cutting for fabbing it up.

yeah cause I'm going to remove the ac an heat altogether just to make it a play car. But i like the fact that the ac condeser shields the radiator would it be a bad idea to take it out? this would give me more room to do it

I can't see how the AC does anything for you one way or another unless you want to do the whole stand up radiator deal, if that's the case, and it sounds like you could if ur willing to delete the AC/heat then you could cut out the radiator support cross beam and mount it at the right height so that the lid and base could be all mounted under a stock hood...
