0-60 reduction with 3.73 gears
What can I do to my old friend that will make it scream to 100mph. How much differance will 3.73-4.10 gears make 0-60. Could I see 4.9 sec 0-60 on a bone stock car or will I need to cam it as well? Should I just pull the engine and start fresh? The tranny is only 16,000 miles old.
It is a long story, however, I was able to purchase my first Dream car back today "the exact car". 14 years ago I had to sell the car that I had wanted all through high school and the Army because of a new job. The woman who bought the car babied it for the past 14 years puting on only 5000 miles a year. The car is a 1994 Z28 (LT1) A4. I have moved on to other high performance cars over the years. I am currently building a GTM what has a race weight of 2200 lbs with 410HP and my last "go fast" car was an E55 Renntech with 588 hp so I have gotten use to speed.
Thanx for the advise.

My 0-60 times diminished because she simply wouldn't hook after swapping in 3.73s.
Between my gears and the 3500 stall I put in a few weeks ago, mine has awoken substantially. I'd suggest 3.73s and a torque converter. With decent drag tires, you could gain up to and over half a second in the quarter mile without adding a bit of power. I don't know about 0-60, but your 60ft times will be awesome.
Congratulations on getting her back.

hey fellow cape codder, not sure on the price but hamliton(sp?) transmission is probably your best bet around here unless you know some one. they'll be rebuilding & swapping gears on my 10broke pretty soon.

Yes, a Street light queen exactly what I am looking for! Who cares about top end on "Cape Cod" however my GTM is geared for 204 top speed (will need more power to get there) but in its current form will still run 0-60 in 3.2, should brake into high 10sec quarter, top out about 190 and corners at 1.09 lateral G's.
I am looking forward to doing all the things I wanted to do to the Z when I had no money to do it.
Can I use any older style SBC starter on the LT1?
Speedfreak where on the Cape do you live?

That's only the M6 cars, the SS/WS6 A4's had 3.23's, as do most. If your shifter has a 1-2-3-D-N-R-P pattern, its a 3.23 gear car, if it has no selection for 1st gear, then it is a 2.73 car.
I would use the LT4 starter if you are in need of a new starter, its a better starter and you don't have to worry about fitment.

Ok another question, should I get the ebay $3099.00 383 stroker or pull this one to rebuild. I am guessing with a stout cam and a .30 over should be around the same power??
What do the shops charge to rebuild if I bring them all the parts (including the heads?
Just looked it is a 3.23 geared car.
