Default ticking noise

I dont drive my car very often. I went to start it the other day and its making a pretty loud ticking kind of clicking noise from the engine. Its pretty loud on the inside of the car too when your driving. the sound gets louder under acceleration and dies back down when you let out. You can still hear it for an idle. It softens up when the car is warmer but you can still hear it. My friends think it could possibly a rod bearing or a lifter. any ideas anybody?

An exhaust leak can sound very much like a loose rocker arm or bad lifter...

I think you have an exhaust leak too. Best way I have found to diagnose where a ticking is coming from is wit a mechanic's stethescope or a long screwdriver or metal rod placed (with your thumb covering the end) to the ear while touching parts of the engine in question. The sound will travel up the rod and the location of the tick should be very apparant. Easy enough to pull the valve covers and give it a visual, but easier to listen to it first.

when you have the car running and you pull the throttle you dont feel any air or heat coming out by the manifold
