Default What is best for code diagnostics and viewing?

OK I know this is subjective as hell but what are you all using to read your codes and check on individual sensor values like the IAC counts, O2 readings and what not? Having trouble with my 97 obdII and it's probably the tune but I need to read codes and see what the hell is going on with this thing. I am changing the coil and ICM soon but I am on my 2nd set of plugs (which are fowled out again) in 5k miles and I am changing plugs(because they are fowled) coil and ICM because they have 100k+ on them and it is a shot in the dark. I can't afford a dyno tune yet and most likely I will be going calling back trifecta to see if they can do something with it but I want to be able to see some of what they are seeing.
