Default Can an alternator / battery cause a Check Engine light?

93 z28, SpeedInc Alt relocation - I was having issues getting the alternator charging because it wasn't grounded, now it is grounded and seems like it's still not putting out. I also fired up my car the other day and something is squeeking super loud, I thought it was the belt but it seems like it could be the alternator going bad.

I was driving the other night breaking in the motor... the check engine light came on, at which time I also noticed the battery gauge reading really low, maybe 1/4 of the way from zero volts. Could that be what caused the CEL? Could that squeeking be that the alt went bad?

Yes, your brake and abs light also comes on before the SES happend to me some weeks ago if you are driving with a low battery (especially at night when u have your lights on) the brake and abs light comes on. If you keep driving the SES may come on to. Driving like that is not good for the engine your ignition system needs that power juice. ( if you just remove the belt for a 1/4 mile race that ok but driving around like that is not good). when u repair the alternator just remove the abs relay for some minutes or the battery cable to reset the pcm. I the SES light return you have another problem. hope this helps
