just wondering what the average range of a piston R&R and a few other things would cost. #3 piston, cam inspection, 1 head ported/polished and both heads rebuilt. from tear down to running...

You dropping off the engine or the whole car? "from teardown to running" sounds like the whole car.

Only way I would look at having one head ported would be if the other one was CNC and you were having the same program run on the presumably replacement head.

Just to get this clear for the rest of the thread can we assume there was some catastrophic event that took out number 3 and that cylinder head??

valve spring anomaly, bent push rod, bend valve( had to use hammer to get valve out of head), piston head damage( crescent moon indentations on piston, 1st initial hit caused a bur) . no noticeable damage to cylinder wall/ still smooth, no nicks, scratches or discoloration
