Default BBK 58mm problem

The throttle blade pivot has some play in it and I'm thinking it's not controlling the throttle blades properly. Whenever I clutch to shift or come to a stop the idle won't come down but I can blip the throttle and it will idle down. Is there a way to fix this as in braze or screw the arms together so they pivot the same? The press fit looks like it's real loose and needs to be tightened. Any suggestions?

I tried screwing them together, but that developed play as well. Just have someone TIG it.

I was told one of the arms was a cheapass metal and would melt when subjected to a welder.

I was having the same problem before i put the car in storage, i have the Holley 58mm and i put a return spring on it to help it a little but i think im just going to replace mine as well. I had the idle problem while coming to a stop and if you just smash the gas it would have like a second delay and that's not good when you have over 400rwhp.. so yea i would just buy another TB and try not to get another BBK i had a problem with them with split BLM

That's cool what you heard, but I posted what I know from experience Welding works fine.

I guess the plan will be to get it welded if the only other option is a new one. I'll give that a shot and buy another TB if it doesn't work. Thanks for the help folks!

Mine did the same thing as well as countless others on the board.

When the TB blades are sealing 100% of the air, you get that sticking condition like you described. Crack the blades slightly open with the adjusting screw and the problem will be gone. You still want the vast majority of the idle air going throught the IAC circuit.

In case welding does not work and I'm forced to shop TBs...what 58mm brand seems to deliver the best performance for the buck?

it's not a sticking condition, it's play in the shaft and cable "bracket"

They are all the same for the most part. I splooged for the Holley mostly because it's the best looking throttle body out there (well, except maybe for the AS&M mono!).

I had nothing but trouble back when I had a BBK 52mm. I sold it as quick as I could and put the 48 back on. But I want to get a stock one bored to 52mm like that guy sells on Ebay.

That Holley looks damn good. How is it holding it up to street driving?

Summit Racing has a Summit branded 58 mm that about 60 less than the others. Any info on that?

I had to throw a tack on the cable arm brackets. Really poor design but I haven't had any problems with it since.
