Default Cold Air Intake in the rain

I just have a CAI question: If daily driven rain or shine, will the engine be harmed if the intake gets wet? A buddy of mine was wondering, because his daily driver camaro has a K&N CAI. It looks as if going through a puddle would propel water up into the intake. I heard this is potentially harmful to the engine, but I would like some additional thoughts. Thank you.

i dumped several litres of water out of a buddies hydrolocked LT1 back in the day. said he drove through a "pretty deep puddle" around 3k rpms and had to get it towed home. it had a k&n cai with all the factory plastic around it and in place. i dumped the water out of the cylinders, squirted some tranny fluid in them, replaced plugs, changed the oil, and it ran fine afterwards.

thanks for the info man. I knew that getting water into the motor through the CAI wasn't good, I just wanted to verify with some one with more experience.

my general plan if I come across a puddle I have to drive through is to go through it with enough speed to go through and turn my car off just before I hit the water, back on when I am clear for minimal water ingestion.

The front wheel in behind the intake for the cai so its damn near impossible to splash water in it unless its a 2 ft deep puddle and you submerse the filter

.....seriously?

I live in Florida where it rains every day during the spring, and never have had an issue on any car

I dont think there is much issue simply driving in the rain. Now if you go through a deep enough puddle that nearly the whole filter is submerged, it might get very ugly.

If it's raining or just a little damp I won't drive my car. Simple as that, some people call me crazy but she NEVER sees rain. That's why I have some other DD's.

Drove my car through all sorts of nasty FL thunderstorms and never had a problem with my K&N CAI - it had the plastic cut out the bottom too. Never bothered the opti either for that matter...

You would have to drive through literally a foot of water for it to be an issue...and I have no plans to convert my camaro into a boat, so I make it a habit to not fjord any rivers with it.

Tell him to to the lid conversion and not worry lol. But yeah as stated unless you go through a really deep puddle you have nothing to worry about

Any ideas on the volant intake? The filters are right up by the nostrils on the ram air hood? Ideally I don't want to see rain, but if i happen to get stuck I dont want to be paranoid...
