Default Got my scat forged rods in today! ?'S

I got my scat forged rods in today and they came with the chrome moly wave loc bolts from arp. they have a tensile strength of 200,000 psi. should i upgrade to the 220,000 ones? i figured the bolts they came with would be more than sufficient. the rods are part number 3-ICR5700P.

I would not worry about it, unless your building a crazy HP set up.

The only upgrade that is worth it is the ARP2000. You won't have a problem with the 8740 chrome moly thou. I would advise against L-19's cause they have a huge head on them and it would require more clearance.

it is a stock type forged rod. this is a stock cube forged rod and piston build. with a cc306, cnc heads, and some nitrous. i didn't think that the bolts would need to be changed, but just wanted to see everyones consensus.

You'll have no issues with that rod/bolt combo. No reason for the larger tensile strength.

I think those will be fine as is. I had always said that I wouldn't buy that type I beam when the ones that use capscrews are only a few more dollars thinking that those were about the same as a stock forged I beam, but after looking at your pics....they look pretty beefy.

Did a little digging, looks like stock rods are about 604g total 422g on the big end.

Should work just fine but you missed an opportunity to upgrade parts for little or no more money

yeah but these are already more than i would need, any more would be money wasted as i would never have the need for an h beam rod. these have good rod bolts and are forged. i can use the money i would have spent on something more worth while like the good balancer im going to buy or the better valve train that i can now afford. i have less than 200 total invested in these...

They are VERY conservatively rated at 500hp at 7500 rpm. i will only be turning 6500. How after market companies hp rate their parts is they take the parts until they fail then they split that number in half. so it took 7500 rpms and 1000hp to cause these rods to fail. these rods will handle much more than 500hp at 6500 rpm.

I would bet someone made it up to support their decision to use the cheapest parts they could buy.

What does it cost to have pistons pressed on? Could money have been saved by getting the same rod bushed for $10 more and not having to pay for pressing the pistons?

Yup I had 500hp RPM brand rods in my old 383 in my Nova. I had the 500hp trickflow top end kit on it with slightly more compression and bigger Carb, intake and 1.6rr so it made maybe 525hp?? Rod let go and ended the engines life. Givin I'd rev it to 7k everytime I drove it and hit the 7.3k limiter on occasion, those rods where rated at 6.5k. Found both rod bolts still torqued nice and tight tho! They where 3/8s arp.
