Ok, 96 chevy impala ss, gonna make it short, filled up the gas two times, both times shortly after fuel up, car dies. Removed gas cap, runs. This last fuel up, drove alot, parked it for three hours, didnt start. Towed it to Meineke, started. They couldnt figured out y it wouldnt start. So with research, replaced the evap can/filter combo. Ran for about 12 miles. Quit. Pulled the cap, ran for another 10. Parked it, took daughter into school. Come outside, wont start. Cap on or off. My direction if thinking is the fuel pump/sock combo. Am I thinking correctly or no? Questions?

I'm curious. Do you really think Meineke had knowledgeable mechanics?

I'm awed at the people that have mechanic work done at brake shops and oil change places. In my book Meineke is right up there with Sears and Pep Boys.

Well, I got lucky and got the top technician probably in the company in town. After we, yes we, did some trouble shooting, finally figured it out. A set of wires on the the top of the fuel tank going through the assembly to the pump, shorted. Had to wait like forever to get all the right parts rounded up but its good now. Thank you for the interest.
