Default Racetronix walbro 255 pump install question

Working on doing a Racetronix walbro 255 fuel pump install and have a quick question...

There is a small black rubber piece that sits in the bottom of the plastic fuel bucket in the socket the pump itself fits into. Heres a pic:

Does this stay in or does it need to be removed? The directions dont mention it so I assume it stays in, but it seems like it would be a big restriction for the pump inlet.

Anyone know?

That stays on the bottom. It is a prefilter screen for the pump. The sock goes on the other end of the housing.

Definitely not a filter, its a solid piece of rubber. The pump pulses fuel into the bucket's pickup area. Leave it in there.

My 2002 has a plastic cup like that. It also has a jet that fills the cup with fuel to keep the pump submerged when the tank is low. That disk is a valve that allows fuel into the cup if the fuel level in the tank is high enough.
