Default Service Engine Soon under full throttle?

I recently picked up a 1996 ws6 M6 and when i put the hammer down the service engine soon light comes on under full throttle. The car is stock except for a true dual exhaust. The light goes off on its own after a few miles of respectful driving. Can anyone tell me what would cause this?

A quick trip to most any parts store and you can have the PCM scanned to find out what the DTC is for free.

If you have a laptop, buying the usb to aldl cable is a huge help. Scan software is free and it makes trouble shooting a breeze. Just an idea for the future.
