Torque converter
Yah I know that in the forums it sails that the cam I use needs a torque converter but my question is can I use the stock one or do I really need to get one? My car is a 96 Trans am and I put a comp cam 503 in it and longtube headers.

If you do insist on doing the cam swap on the stock converter, when you DO upgrade the converter you'll immediately see the reason why you should have done it in the first place.

Im sure if the car is making good power then the stock converter will hold you back. I had an issue years ago with loosing a good amount of power through a 2500 stall converter. Once I replaced it with a good quality converter ( Yank 3000) I gained about 60hp and went from a 1.89 60ft to a 1.65 60 ft. This was on a 96 z28 with le2 heads and comp cam and built tranny with shift kit
