Default Vortec Distributor Reliability

Intake can take a distributor so thinking bout running one for cam signal, but concerned with reliability, would rather not drop the motor out when it goes belly up.

Safe to run on a daily driven car?

I'm the original owner of a '98 C1500 with 350 Vortec. 110k on the original distributor, changed cap and rotor once. The truck runs Great. I work with a guy with a '97 K1500, same engine and the only problem he had with his distributor is when he used a aftermarket cap and rotor for a tune-up. Within a short time it started running bad, he went with a new ACDelco cap and rotor-no more problems. I learned from his misfortune and installed a ACDelco or Delphi cap and rotor when I did mine.

I've seen very few cam sensor failures with the vortec distributor (I tow for a Chevy dealer). Besides if it does fail, you can replace the sensor without removing the distributor. It may not be easy in an f-body but it shouldn't be impossible. I would say go for it. I was actually planning similar if I go with a single plane intake, and a 24x conversion.

Did you order a hole saw too? Would make it easier to change the dizzy in 50 miles.

The Vortec distributor is about as simple as it can possibly get.
In my '98 pickup, I replaced the cap and rotor at 248,000 miles with Advanced Auto parts; still going strong at 382,000.
