Default MSD Opti Carnage

Has anyone ever seen one do this? Ran like **** when I parked it and then some kids totaled it. The coil wire burnt through the cap and was killing the rotor.

Looks like the center of the cap melted and spit the center out. the rest was caused by the parts coming out.

What Ignition? MSD told me not to go over a Digital 6

Not yet, i would never run one with an opti anyways. It probably did pull a bit of vacuum. I can get my sheet-metal intake to flex when the throttle is opened up. I had it hooked up to a small fuel filter running thru two check valves so I didn't think it would pull that much vacuum.

I'm never going to run another opti on both my lt1s, my 94 was the only reason i did. When the opti comes back I'm going to sell them both.

I haven't measured but if a opti has a 6 inch dia, that works out to 28 sq inches of area x a differential pressure of even 6psi (assuming the hose doesn't collapse) = 168 pounds of pressure on the opti cap. You can see why its important to have good venting into and out of the opti.
