Default 95 LT1/T56 new Flywheel install

I am installing a new GM flywheel (10105379) on a stock 95 LT1, I have taken the pin weights out of the old flywheel and reinstalled them at the same locations in the new flywheel. Is this correct?

If it's a GM flywheel, then it's already balanced correctly. The weights are not removable, so I'm not sure what you're referring to.

On the outside of the flywheel there are 12 holes , on my original flywheel holes 6 & 7 , forward looking aft clockwise, from locating pin hole had a 1" long pin in hole 7 and a .5 long pin in hole 6, I punched these out and installed in the new flywheel at the same locations.

these are cast FW so each will weigh/balance diffrently.

you can take your old & new FW to a machine shop and have the new one balanced exactly like the old one (would have to put the pins back in old one)

I have not seen a "stock" FW use the pin weights but did have a machine shop use them when I had a stock one "neutral" balanced for my new internal balanced 383. they ground off the cast in weight and then added pins as needed to balance it

as mentioned you should just be able to bolt the new one on. if you still have the dowel pin in the end of the crank, it only goes on 1 way

looking at your old FW pic there are many more drilled areas where there is material removed from the old than the new one. this shows the variance between castings

I had my whole flywheel/clutch/pressure plate assembly match balanced by a local machine shop to the old flexplate when I mated the engine up to a T56. It was worth it. Turned out the new pressure plate was way off.

I haven't either, the weight should be the large part sticking out near the top, and the drilled areas are for balance.

Thanks for the replies, I got a hold of the Factory service manual and found the answer, Thought I'd post it so it may help someone in the future.
