Default LT1 Oil Filter

Hello out there. I am looking for an oil filter longer than the PF-454 size I see listed. I'm a former Tier 1 Filtration Designer, and would like to use a longer oil filter with more media on a 1995 Camaro LT1 with the stock exhaust. Is it possible to use the 4-3/8" long PF25 (or equivalent) instead of the short 3" long PF454 without clearance issues?

I prefer to use a cap style wrench of it makes a difference.

It's been a while since I haven't had my mechanic do my oil, but I'd like to get to doing it myself.

Thanks,
Dave

Mobile 1 M1-302 is 5 1/4" long and works fine with stock exhaust. This thread has some part numbers for other long filter brands that work.

Before I got my Longtubes, I used the filter from a 1988 G-series 350 van. I can't remember the AC Delco number for that.

I use the K&N 3002 filter on the street, now since I run pure methanol I have to change it every other weekend.

Do you have a part # for your Coleman thermos?

That looks like the big two quart AC PF-932 or Hastings LF226. That's a beast if you can fit it.

I just picked the car up Saturday...the oil was really dirty from the former owner not driving it much...1500-1800/year and not thinking they needed at least a yearly oil change.

To get the oil out as soon as possible, I had the oil changed on the way home...Penzoil semi-synth 5-30 with a Fram PH-30, which equates to the half quart AC PF-25.

The full quart AC PF-35 (and competitive interchanges) are about an inch longer....that's a lot of media.

I plan on giving the filter a couple of weeks to work, then changing the filter with a fresh Wix 51061 or Hastings LF224.

I plan on putting maybe 800-1000 on before winter, then changing the filter again in spring before bringing her out and going back to Mobil 1 5-30.

Does that make sense?

Thanks!
Dave

Dave -

If you are afraid of that extra long 2 qt "Coleman Thermos" being hit by a pothole, try the Fram HP4 - it's 5.75 inches - not too long, not too short.

I've ran 2quart filters for over 6 years...stock exhaust and long tubes.
Anything longer is asking for trouble. A bigger oil pan or remote filter setup is the only safe way to get enough oil in there to make a differance.
Just my opinion.

The pan is lower than the filter and hell, the exhaust/wastegate are lower than that.

I like the added oil capacity makes me smile.

I used the Mobile One 302 filter for years even with Hooker LTs, can't any more due to the Kooks Stepped LTs.
