Default Over heating, kinda...

Ive recently got my camaro running, after sitting for maybe six months or so..Today i let her run and warm up just to get some fluids moving. I checked the coolant before starting and it was low so i added some to the radiator and also to the overflow. So, i started her up and let her run and noticed the temp on the gauges go up to about 3\4 to 260 (190ish maybe?). So i got the temp gun out and the block was showing around 180 and heads around 150. I turned the heat on full blast and and the temp dropped down to maybe 170. Anyone have any idea? water pump going? Also, I topped the coolant off over the week end, (maybe there was a bubble in the system or still is?) but i checked the oil and its dirty but not milky and i didnt see any oil in the coolant either. I hope its not a head gasket.....thanks for the input guys.

Did you bleed the air out of the system using the bleeder valves on the thermostat housing and the heater hose?

They run hot from the factory. I think the fans are programmed to come on near 225 for low speed and 235 for high speed. 3/4 up the gauge while sitting isn't anything to worry about. As long as you stay out of the red.

yeah mine use to get close to red sitting at a light on a hot day, after i got the pcm tuned the fans were tuned to come on a lot earlier and the car never went over 180 which was great. Evereyone makes rookie mistakes though good hing you caught it thougha nd didn't replace parts that didnt need to be replaced.
