Question Bought a 1995 camaro z28 a month ago, dont know much about it.

I bought my z28 a month a go, it has 103k, t-tops, in excellent clean shape inside out, but can't tell what's been done to the car from previous owners. All I know it has custom exhaust, don't like it at all, right side is slightly longer than the other, it has the SLP cold air intake, looks fairly new, runs quick as hell on first 2 gears, and the transmission looks clean as hell, don't know if gears been changed or transmission been rebuilt, so my point is how can i tell what gears i currently have and how do i tell if other mods been upgraded to my car? (will post pictures later today if not early tomorrow)

Jack the back up, chalk a line on the inside of the wheel and a line on the driveshaft. Turn the wheel and count the revolutions of the driveshaft compared to one revolution of the wheel. If the DS spins approx 3.75 times then you have 3.73 gears, 3.42 times then you have 3.42 gears, etc...
There is also a code on the door that should say what gears came in it stock, which if it had an auto from the factor the gears would be 2.73's.
Read more about the codes at www.shbox.com

Easiest way to tell what's been done to a car is take it to the track and see what it runs. Put sticky tires on it to eliminate driver error from skewing the numbers. The mph is the big key in how much power it makes though, not ET.

I need to give it a shot, when i got the extra money and time lol, but just wanted to see if there was an easier way other than drag racing where you can just tweak it with your hands here and their to know.

Test n tune is from $15-30 depending on what track you live near, less than a case of beer. If you are over 85 in the 1/8th or 105 in the 1/4, you have mods. If not, your stock.
