Hey guys i have a 1994 Camaro Lt1 with a 6 speed and lately i've been hearing a grinding or coughing sound when i start it. it doesn't happen all the time and only does it while its still cranking and not after it has started and only lasts for a couple seconds. there are no noises after it has started and runs fine after that. I've been searching for a while and cant seem to figure out what the problem is. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

To begin with, check that the starter is not coming loose.

I checked the starter and it appears to be tight. It seems like it does it a lot more after i stop and shut it off and get back in again like if i got gas, shut it off and where to start it, it would make the noise again.
