I got new good wires ordered and gonna put back in that loom some how holding it away from alt. But hopeful it's the new cheapo wires cause this issue.. I'm ready to pull my hair out over this.

I recently went through a similar problem. Replaced everything but the opti (I was in denial). Finally got so bad couldn't stand it and decided to replace opti. But, when I pulled the opti out the dowel pin came with it. Apparently it had broken off and under high RPM's became unstable and caused the miss. Not saying it's your problem too but ya never know.

The reason I am saying wires is because it clears up. If it got bad and stayed bad I would feel the opti more likely.

Do you have a under drive pulley-harmonic balancer? My SLP pulley was messed up and the computer was seeing knock about 5 k and would pull timing out causing a miss fire. Drove me nuts till I changed it back to stock and it ran perfect. Spent hundreds of dollars chasing this. Shoulda sent SLP a bill. Pure junk stuff

Underdrive dampers are a better mod on vehicles with more belt load, like those with belt driven waterpumps.

The rubber damper piece was loose and the motor saw that as knock. It was on a LS1 motor..

Like I said a handful of guys have found a miss around peak torque because cylinder pressure is high and the spark has a hard time jumping the gap. Not all plug wires are all that good, not even new.

Taylors are probably leaking at peak torque.

Not atall, what I am saying is the brand new Taylors are likely leaking spark, an aftermarket coil is unlikely to be any hotter and if it were that would only exaggerate the problem.
The stock 96 ignition system is rather good since it targeted 100K mile tuneups.

Could it be possible the valve springs are weak and the valves are floating?
