Default Knocking underneath center console under acceleration

I'm at work, and I went to Chevron to get some snacks. I when I left to turn on the street, then I feel the underneath of my arm rest of the center console knocking each time, I give a little hard acceleration. At first, I thought could it be the driveshaft? Than I thought, could it be something else? After I got back from the store, I've read it could be a tranny mount that is messed up? Just started happening today.

Any ideas and opinions are welcomed; thank you (96 Trans Am A4)

Most likely the trans mount, they get old and brittle over time and seperate and cause exactly what you're describing.

Oh ok. Alright, I'll look into getting that replaced. Thank you for your input.

Get the "poly" trans mount. Worth the little extra money imho. $0.02

definitely worth it, these cars tear through those rubber mounts with just stock power all the time, but i've not heard of anyone breaking a poly one. I haven't noticed any appreciable difference in vibration/harshness either.

I agree with the above. But another possibility is the tq arm clam shell bolt has stripped and the smacking you hear is the tq arm slamming the bottom side of the tunnel.

If the LS1 trans mount is cheaper, go with that one, of course it may be discontinued by now. Other issue is you also need the nut for the mount. LT1 mount nut is not the same. The LS1 mount has been reinforced to address the issue of the weaker LT1 mount. Works great.
