With a positional tolerance of a tenth or two, you would have a damn perfect hole diameter as well, .000001 status lol
.000001" would be ninja Status.

IDK, I always refer to a tenth as a tenth, being .0001. Usually for bearing bores etc. Dat grind.

This should help make it easier.

10(ten) 100(hundred) 1,000(thousand) 10,000(ten thousand) 100,000(hundred thousand)

. decimal

.1(tenth) .01(hundredth) .001(thousandth) .0001(ten thousandths) .00001(hundred thousandths)

For me, I would say this, .285 as two hundred eighty five thousandths or .0008 as eight ten thou or .00002 as, **** it... its within a couple hundred thou.

I originally read it as him picking up his shortblock and rotating assembly, as in an assembled shortblock.

Just realized it was a bare block and rotating assembly, and he will be assembling it. If that is the case, then yes he should check all clearances as he assembles it.

Yea i think any trained machinist would laugh if someone called a "tenth" 1 ten thousandths of an inch. Depending on the object a "tenth" is a 0.1" or a 0.0001". If your talking 'bout washers/shims a "tenth" is 0.1" or 'bout a brg clearnce its 0.0001". If u walked into a real machine shop saying 1 ten thousandths of an inch they would know your a wanna be right away and wouldnt let u touch their machines. Probably sell u a lot of work u dont need too. And charge u for work they didnt do because u wouldnt know the difference either.

Well I'm not a machinist so there's that. I'm an A&P and I've never heard it called a tenth. So color me newly informed. Although I do know enough about engines to not buy **** I don't need.
