1996 camaro fuel gauge goes off scale then no start??

1996 camaro fuel gauge goes off scale then no start?? I have a 96 camaro lt1 that has a bizarre start issue. it happens randomly and seldom. (twice in about 6 weeks+-)
Turn the key to the On position and the fuel gauge goes off scale high,then remains there after the key is turned to the off position. If you try and start the car it will not fire, Fuel pump buzzes up. If you disconnect the battery let it sit a few minutes it will start and the fuel gauge returns to normal.
Brought it home , No codes present or stored. Fuel pressure is good and maintains after shutdown.
This is the Mrs. car and hate sending her out in it. Any help would be appreciated.
