Default Lt1 engine install chicagoland

Hey guys, was wondering if anyone knew of reliable shops around the chicagoland that could swap out a bad lt1 for a rebuilt one in my 96 trans am, while not breaking the bank. Any help would be appreciated.

No way for you to study up and do it yourself? That's the best way you can save money. You are looking at rates of at least $80-100 an hour otherwise, and shops would probably charge you for at least a day or more. Plenty of info on the how to here and camaroz28.com.

It's easy enough to do. If you really don't feel comfortable, once the snow melts around here, I would be willing to do it on a weekend. But my garage is a little packed right now. I'm in Schaumburg.

I have an open garage and my own engine hoist, just kinda strapped with time since I'm away at school.

The hardest part of the whole thing in your garage will be getting the car high enough to roll the engine and trans combo out from underneath the chassis. I took mine out this past weekend without too much hassle aside from my exhaust. But I also had all of the wiring out of the car. I put the back end up on jackstands, then used a chain around the frame hooked up to my hoist. Dropped the engine down to a dolly, and jacked the frame up high enough to roll it out. Really not that hard, just a little time consuming. I plan on a day out, then a day back in, and maybe half a day before the engine is fired. If you have another hand it goes by a lot quicker. Also depends on how motivated you are. I like to take my time and make sure that I didn't forget anything. It can be done on a 3 day weekend that you're home or if you're home for summer.

I will be home this weekend and for the whole week since its my spring break. I live in Munster, in right by Lansing. If you were interested in helping me we could work out a deal.

Unfortunately I have a bunch of plans this weekend, so I'm not available. I actually wouldn't have time for about a month to help out.
