Bastard LTx Build Thread - For real this time :) (NOW WITH MOAR PICZ)
Working on my car again - my '93 Z28, with 95 LT1 block, converted SBC intake w/ 4150 TB, and LS ignition+computer. Little bit of everything lol. I am going to keep track of everything and post updates in this thread. Goal is to have it on an engine dyno within the next month or two for break-in, then put it in the car for a dyno tune not long after that. Hoping for ~625-650 on the engine dyno, although RWHP numbers won't be as impressive since I'm planning on a big and heavy 4L80e or TH400 with non-lockup stall. **EDIT** Going with a built FTI glide and 8" 5500 stall .
The motor itself was finished almost 2 years ago but has been sitting on a stand after losing interest and a bunch of different things coming up. It sat for a long time just needing a computer system, damper, and fuel setup for the motor to be complete.
As far as parts, this is where I am at and what I still need:
***Updated 9/10/15***
Installed/finished:
- Gas Tank removed, flushed and cleaned, replaced. (new motor will still get new tank + FP)
- Weld RTS's w/ ET Street 275/60/r15 rears and M&H Racemaster 185/75/r15 fronts
Arrived and in boxes:
- 24x double roller setup w/ Billet timing cover
- D581 truck coils w/ brackets(will make something to reuse the factory ugly brackets for now.)
- 411 PCM
- LS K&N Air Filter
- Fast Toys 104mm Lid
- LS Rad Support/lid Base
- Built 1200hp capable t-braked Powerglide w/ all the goodies from FTI
- Custom FTI SS8 Billet 8" 5500 stall
- Complete fuel system from hardlines forward(-8AN Parallel feed, Aeromotive A1000, -6AN return)
- ATI Superdamper
Still need:
- Bigger FP. Aeromotive 340?
-Carb hat. Looking at an Evo Pro, but if the price is right I'd take an Evo 1/procharger hat or similar. Not interested in those low profile POS's. Now looking at a round filter+air pan setup to prevent a power robbing eblow and take advantage of my cowl hood.
- LT1 crossmember for TH350/PG with trans mount relocation so I can reuse my stock style UMI Tq arm
- Shifter. Gate style, not ratchet. Preferably a pistol grip, preferably w/ button on the **** for trans brake. I really like the Kwik Shift.
- Custom Harness. Buying this last. Going with BP automotive custom 24x harness.
To be track ready:
- Rear end (Most likely Fab9)
- Driveshaft (Denny's 1350)
Kind of excited to finally see what this thing can do.
(Project postponed AGAIN from "life" getting in the way...)

If you gotta pinch pennies, I would just not touch the fuel system. Leave it factory up the flex lines up to engine under driver seat. Run some 6an to the rails and just do a series setup. I don't think you will run out of fuel and you can always then resell the 6an stuff to someone as a fuel line relo kit later.

Coils came in few days ago, the new 24x setup with timing cover should be in sometime next week. I can't wait to see that billet cover...I got it in raw billet, non anodized, and am going to hit it with rustoleum clear coat to prevent any oxidation.

Think I finally have my fuel system parts picked out. Went a bit over budget, but I've saved a lot on my 24x setup and coils so still in the positive. A1000 reg, 8an to a Y block then parallel feed from the back of the rails, leading to 8an going to both sides into the reg and then using the bottom 6an return. Using the Super Stock braided hose from Earls with the tool less push lock AN fittings. I liked the Aeroquip lightweight hose with their quick AN ends but the fittings for that are expensive as ****.
Shooting efi connection an email on Monday to see what hub/damper combo they recommend for their billet timing setup to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Trying to wait for a good deal on an 80e, but its hard when I constantly see badass built TH400s popping up all the time for super cheap in the FS section. With the money saved I could almost get a 9"...

Probably not.
Still have a wedding and house shopping to do, I was lucky enough to convince the other half to let me spend the money I was going to use on a beater to finish the old Z .
I'll have motor results by then, but it won't be track ready or dialed in. Hopefully everything will be settled down by the 2016 one lol.
You have any input on the trans situation? Do you agree TH400 is the way to go for a good price:performance bulletproof trans?

Calling FTI tomorrow have a talk with the owner and see if I can get them to build me a trans not listed on their site. I want the power rating and trans brake of the Lvl3, but the auto shifting of the Lvl2. Not sure if they can do it - I know Jakes can, but FTI are already cheaper, plus they are running an awesome 10% off sale until the 15th - and as a bonus they are 45 minutes away so its nice to support the local guys.
If all goes well, tomorrow the trans, crossmember, and maybe stall will be ordered. Still dragging my *** on the fuel system...I have the full summit cart if anyone wants to look at it to nitpick, just haven't hit the checkout button yet. Went over budget by a lot, lol. ~$400 from hardline to fuel rails, with regulator. Was trying to keep it under $300, oh well.
I could have sworn I saw someone selling a TH400 LT1 body crossmember in here, but can't find it now. Not a big deal since it was only $20 less then new, but every bit saved helps get me closer to being able to squeeze a new rear end out of this build.

th350 all the way. No need for a th400 at that power level unless you plan on a power adder sometime down the line. A th400 is bigger and heavier and sucks a little more power. A 4L80 is a monstrosity that gives you an overdrive. It will add a lot of $$$$$$ to the final cost. Converters for them are not cheap. I would do a manual valve body with a t-brake.

I have ruled out the 80e after tons of reasearch trying to justify one. In reality they are are nice trans, but they are even bigger and heavier then a TH400 and considerably more expensive.
I'd love to get jakes auto w/ electric trans brake valve body. Automatic operation with no fuss push button trans brake is badass, but not sure if another shop will agree to put someone elses parts in and I don't know who else offers something like that. I'll be talking to FTI today though.
