Default coolant line on back of heads

so i had to take both my heads off at the same time due to the coolant line still attached to the heads. now that i have the heads off i figure that i could easily get the line off.... wrong. what do i need to do to get this coolant line off? do i need to get the 15mm bolt off, or do i need to get the bigger bolt that the 15mm is attached to off, or what? because neither of them want to come undone.

there is only one bolt in each head.
i dont understand what you mean the bigger bolt it is attached to. the bolt goes thru the cooland line and into the head has a rubber washer on each side of it.

There is a bolt that goes through a fitting, just use the 15mm and it should come out.

Have you tried Mr. Bluewrench? Since the heads are off maybe you could try to get some sort of penatrant to the backside.

iwannablower, man, I just went through this with my head gasket replacement a few months back. On the 94's the bolts were very thin headed and very soft material. I broke a knuckle on one of them trying to get it off with the heads still on the block. To save you some pain and frustration:

Cut the line between the two heads & with the heads attached from each other, grind the bolt head off. That's how I did it. After that, the hollow part of the bolt came right out. Yes the head is 15mm but you'll just strip it.

I ordered a new coolant line from GM:

1993-1994 steam pipe behind heads, incl bolts, seals and hose to radiator 10108635 $31.14

1995-1997 steam pipe behind heads, incl bolts and seals 12556260 $24.91

It will come with all new seals, and if you have a 93-94 I know for a fact the new bolts that come with the steam pipe will have a much larger head on the bolts so next time you have to remove it you can actually get a wrench to bite.
