number 6 opti dead lol
Yeah thats right i blew up number 6 vented ac delco factory opti. The car has 107000 but i have figured out what the problem is. Not dowel length ... It only happens when i ahve storewd the car for the winter, so i think it gets condensation or something and I keep exploding rotors. So anyway dynaspark, msd opti, or the coil conversion what do u guys think...

Highly Not recommended. Unless he plans on driving the car for at least 20- 30 minutes he's not doing any good. starting the car up for short periods of time will only let condensation build up in the oil..
you'll end up with crap like this

You guys wanted to see a Fucked up opti.. It's not mine, but this pics may scare u..
that car has 215K on it. never Threw any CEL codes, just finally started to run rough on him and then it died. We concluded the waterpump Seal seems to be the source of the leak, and due to money and time constraints he never fixed it......

OUCHY i usually blow up that little wheel or the rotor combusts somehow. I guess sitting+6500 rpms wake up = every summer replacing the damn opti. ALso I sometimes would just drive it around for 25 mins in the winter and that year my opti was fine but I couldnt this year or last because this year i blew a headgasket before I stored it and the previous year I blew my motor before i stored it.

I disagree....I've been storing cars for the winter since the late 70s, and I always start them up and let them run for 15-20 minutes every couple of weeks. Crappy looking oil? That's why you change it in the spring, before you start driving it. I'd rather get the oil flowing around, keeping the seals and gaskets from drying out, and IMHO, more importantly, keeping the valve springs from sitting in one position for too long. AND, in the case of an LT-1, it allows the "Opti" to have the moisture pulled out of it. Just my $0.02 worth...
By the way, Accel also makes an Opti replacement. Its shown in the Summit Racing catalog...$299.

Hey, I've only stored my car for one winter for 4 months, and I never touched it. Started up and ran just fine the day i got it out. I had no leaks, nothing. That's what I had been recommended to do by a lot of people who store their cars, and even some of those know it all oil guys. Heck a lot of people can get that milky substance in the winter or cold days because they're not drivng the car long enough to burn off condensation. So it goes and collects at the coldest place in the engine, aka the filler cap. That pic was from a Impala guy who started his car every other day during storage and drove it around for 1.5 Miles.
Got a question for you 97M6Formula. How many times have you replaced the opti vent harness?
I would rather wait for the MSD unit. Accels opti is made in China (MSD USA???) and besides the cap and rotor they will not be offering any replacement parts for it like MSD will for theirs. You'd be better off going with another GM unit.

Put a hairdryer on the opti over night before starting it if you been storing it for a long time. It'll dry it out if condensation builds up. Also yes starting it for a few minutes will just make more condensation build up.

97, I'd like to know how often you've replaced your vent harness. If I were you'd Id highly suggest spending $20 and buying a new one. Those things dont last forever and the check valves in them can go bad.
