I have a moroso cai and where the filter is located is
like behind all of the plastic pieces that you have to
unbolt to get to all of the turnsignals and stuff, and i was
wandering if I took all of the plastic stuff off if I could
tell a difference since it is getting more air to the filter?
Also would it hurt anything by keeping all of that stuff off,
and has anyone ever done this?

All my stuff is off. Looks better and you can get a jack under the front much eiasier.

yeah it makes it easier to work on but, its also a hinderance because if you drive on dirt roads or in the rain you run a higher risk of gettting it dirty faster and hurting your car due to the water in the filter from the rain

I took the splash guards off years ago. I don,t daily drive it anymore but even when I did I never had a problem.
You will have to clean the filter more often.
I rigged up a ghetto ram air from dryer duct hose that directs air to the filter, it looks silly and I get ragged on all the time for it but it does work.

There is a guy in a Honda Civic with that CAI, thinks he can take my Z28 cause he has that.

What I did was cut out the metal out of the area where the Air Box is, extended and dropped the box down into the wheel well. Then I cut out a square portion, cut the Air Dam part that was directly infront of it, and made a scoop out of Aluminum. It pulls all the cold air that is coming under the car in that area.

Hey Shon, I finally ripped out my carpet, and bought some lightweight carpet at Menards. Weren't you talking about a plastic piece under the dash under the pedals, that extends to the passenger side of the car? Didn't you say that was like 13-16 pounds or something?

Yeah, that whole black piece is huge and is atleast 15#s, take your time and get a good box cutter and start ripping it out. well worth the effort.

Post pix of the carpet once installed. I have not made that purchase yet....

I spun out at 130mph when too much air got up under the nose when those pieces were off. After putting them back on, I've never even come close to that--even up to 140mph.

Scary feeling huh? You seem to have ended up ok. me? Not so lucky spent 3 months in the hospital and have the screwed up back to show for it. Funny thing is I was racing against a 94' Firebird at the time. lol

Without them, your front bumper does not have the support that it needs at the bottom. at speed the bottom of the bumper will tuck under causing lift.

i think the front air dam also keeps your car running cool also cuz it forces air onto the radiator

You'd be amazed what air can do. Next time you're cruising 75 on the highway, put your windows down--I bet you lose 1 mpg at least. So lift and instability are definitely something to consider--especially on the bottom of the vehicle where turbulence is highest. The underbody's drag coefficient is normally 3-4 times that of the contoured body.

the radiator is nothing without the air dam, I love reading "cooling issues" posts where people have removed it

I was extremely lucky. I hit another car in mid-spin (right rear quarter to right rear quarter) that trashed the other car, but mine came away with just some minor dings. The other car was nearly totalled. Fortunately no one was hurt.

After that I did a lot of study on 4th Gen aerodynamics and realized just how critical all those pieces are. To make some really significant improvements would not cost too much, but the non-racers on this site would scream "rice" if they saw what that really involved.
