Default Car idleling really weird

I started my car up and parked it the garage no problem. Then i start it again and it sounds like it has a cam in it or something and its sputtering and what not. Its idleling between 400 and 600rpm. The guy at the dealer told me its probaly my new GM replacement computer just acting up since it hasnt been scanned/tuned by tech1 yet which it will be on Saturday. He said thats my problem but is he right? I kinda smell a little gas or oil or something when it idles but nothing leaks and I checked to make sure all connections were good under the hood. Also it idles similar to when it did when I ran out of gas way back but I have half a tank in it. Any help is appreciated

The stock idle setting on autos is 550 rpm.

If you have the stock cam and it sputters I doubt it is a tuning problem though.

yea I dunno but the guy said my computer needs to be programmed for my car settings from the factory so therefore my timing is off which is making my idle all erratic which makes sense I suppose.

it should be 800, a lot of the time the tach will show 900 or 1K but thats because its off by that much. It's probably just relearning, if it lasts for too long then there is a problem

there shouldnt be anything to relearn... the program is the program. and the numbers dont really change... i use to be a GM tech and never had to reprogram an OBD1 car.. some times you would reprogram newer vehicles to keep with updated software for the sophisticated crap in them to keep them from messing up... like reprogramming the Radio so that it wont short out... make sure everything is connected, but yes... hooking up the Tech 1 and reading whats going on is the only way to see whats up..
let us know how it turns out...

the stock setting is somewhere around 800-900 for manuals. 550 for autos. That is for obd1 only, I don't know about 2.

What I'm saying is that if the mods in your sig are all you have, you don't have anything that would require a major change in timing just to run right.

Oh I see and yeah your right. The tech dude says the new computers go through cycles before they are hooked up to and programmed by tech 1 so he said this is normal but I have no clue I just hope it goes back to normal after it is programmed.

i have had similar instances with several different types of vehicles that i have owend. all were started only to move over a spot or put in garage and not letting the car warm up and then start up later and have a ruff idle. i always thought it to be fouled plugs because of the short runtime from previous startup and they would always clear up after a short time running.

or coil... sometimes when the coil starts to go, it only messes up when its hot... programming with the tech 1 has nothing to do with it.

I had it programmed by tech1 and it went away and runs like a dream now.
