How many miles did you have when you got your motor rebuilt?
As my title says, how many miles were you at when you got a rebuild? I was thinking of getting a 383 rebuild once I hit 140kish at 71k now.

well just refreshing your engine whether you stroke or not I'd say whatever mileage after 100k dependent on your current mods and goals.
I killed my original motor @86k, had a spare built block we installed that lasted to 115k, sat 20m and is now stroked. It really just depends on a few variables.
Hows it running now?

146k, Head gasket took a crap and hydro locked the motor, 10 days after purchasing the car, haha. I got 0.20 over bore pistons and milled heads along with all the stuff in my sig.

I tore mine down at 104k. Engine probably just needed some bearings really. They would have been fine though, they just showed wear for 104k. Of course I wanted to proceed with my plans. On a side note, I helped a friend tear into an LS1 with 'not many miles on it.' We can't so for sure how many. It had what sounded like a rod knocking. It had a spun bearing on #1, 4 others were wiped, and the last 3 were probably ok. This was a GM shortblock so the amount of miles probably doesn't really matter--**** can happen at any time.

My cadillac had 158,000 when I totalled it and put the engine in the garage. ran great until then, very strong. It will be turned into a 383, or 396 within the next 2 years, as funds allow.
The 9c1 has 180kish and is also runing strong still. But I'm whilling to bet neither of my cars were driven as hard as an F-body.
Sorry to not be 100% on topic, but felt it was close enough to be worth mentioning.

I have 156K+ miles on my Impala. It runs strong and I still get 25 mpg on the highway. These motors will last forever if they are taken care of. Even my original opti lasted till 115K+ miles. I just changed it and the water pump just for maintenance. I even have stock rear end and tranny. Tranny has zero metal in fluid.

here is the quote:
"I was looking at the carnage from Joe's LT1 and I have to say I have never seen a piston & connecting rod in so many pieces. It looks like the rod broke about 1 inch below the wrist pin and took out EVERYTHING in & associated with the #6 cylinder. The cylinder wall has a chunk out of it. The exhaust valve broke in half, valve guides, both lifters bodies cracked, spring retainer, rocker arm, camshaft, windage tray & the oil pan. Luckily the cylinder head can be repaired. The combustion chamber needs to be welded and reshaped due to the large gash just under the spark plug hole. I guess when the stock powdered metal rods come apart they do it with style. The stock rod bolts lived though. "
oh man!
