Default Replacing Plug #8 - LT1

Hi Folks
Like most of you, plug #8 can be a real pain to get to on a LT1. I do not have skinny arms or small hands, so I cannot get it from the top. This is how I removed the #8 plug and/or wire. Disconnect the battery, remove O2 senor next to the starter, and remove starter (remove the two bolts and slide the starter forward). You will have the room to work now. I hope this will help somebody.
thanks

Bill

I think it was # 2 or it may be #4 was a bitch for me because of all of the hard tubing.

#8 is not bad at all for me with headers. But #6 is the one that sucks for me.

Hi Folks,
I don't have a Y-pipe, 97 has 2 Cats and to drop the driver side is a bitch. The driver side is one that goes past the starter. For me, the starter is the easiest thing to remove and get to plug #8 & #6. When I changed the wires, I removed the idle pully wheel so I could get to the wires easier. I find it easier to remove thing than fight to work around them.
Thanks
Bill

I drop the starter on mine and take out #6 and #8 from below.

No need to remove anything else as I have Long Tubes. I *could* get them with the starter mounted, but it takes 5 minutes to remove the starter and saves 30 minutes of scratching up my hands and cussing.

Get all of them without removing anything. Takes about 30 min.
I removed the Air Conditioning box off of the Fire Wall.

That's what my Cadillac is for.. the AC died in the Camaro 2 days after I bought it, previous owner spent $500 to fix it. I got rid of the problem all together..

"The driver side is the one that goes past the starter".......Am I missing something here? Every SBC starter I've ever seen is on the passenger side.

I always get 6 and 8 from the bottom. I'm about to remove the a/c **** so maybe I can get them from the top in the future.

Hi Folks
On my 97 the driver's side CAT is next to exhaust manifold (tight fit) and the pipe runs down and pass the starter. It actually runs along the bell housing, the back-end of the oil pan and directly under the starter. The passenger side exhaust run down and goes to the back – the driver side plugs in at a “Y” at that point. The passenger side CAT is further back. Don’t blame me – Chevy did it ha, ha
Thanks
Bill

with my edelbrock headers I could get them all from up top. when I put my jet hot LTs on I had to get 6/8 from the bottom pulling the starter, now I pulled the AC box out no more problems.

Didn't know the LT4's had a different Starter..I have a Vette one on mine cause I have a Vette Block. For some reason, the Camaro one didn't want to work.

Hi Folks
I would find it hard to believe that Chevy would have a different starter for the LT1 and LT4. Maybe different years had different starters; the flywheel and external block are the same. Cam, heads, intake, etc. are different. I looked at my shop manual and no indication of a difference in starters. Just my two cents
Thanks
Bill
