Default Need help/advice.

Came back home from the holidays and its about a 400 mile drive. Well the car started to make a thumping sound, mostly at an idle and at low speeds. After i got over 25 mph i didnt hear it anymore. Then the SES light came on and when i got home and scanned it threw code P0100, the MAF. So why would this cause a loud thumping sound? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

well if the MAF is bad the cars gonna do alot of shitty stuff like idle wrong and not run good... some cars wont even start but most will.. does it choke out at like 4-5k RPM's??

i didnt get the rpms up that high, but it didnt run all that bad. Thats why im so confused. The highest i got it was around 3500 there was no bogging, cutting out or anything. It just developed that thumping sound and then threw the code. I understand that a bad MAF would cause it to run bad, but was just curious as to what the thumping noise was.
