From my experience working at a chevrolet dealership, I learned that your problem is due to a faulty pass lock sensor. It's a sensor inside the ignition cylinder which reads the chip built into your ignition key. The fix is to buy an ignition lock cylinder and a new ignition key from a dealership. They will have to program the components at the dealership in order for them to work. Generally the programming is free of charge with the parts purchase. My replacement ignition cylinder for my 96 trans am ran me about $40.
