i wouldnt buy a kit if i were you. you can put a better setup together for yourself for little to no extra cost. in almost every case youll find that some aspect of a "kit" isnt want youre wanting. if forged isnt important to you i would go with an eagle crank, some good manley forged rods(lighter bottom end=higher and faster revs), and your choice of pistons depending on the heads and compression ratio youre looking to achieve. theres alot more to it then just throwing a motor together with a kit. people do it all the time and end up not getting the desired result so do your research and know your parts and make the right decision the first time so you dont end up kicking yourself.

Yea, I paid the same amount for the parts I put together. I put in the stock
Crank, but with Eagle 5140 Forged Rods, and Speed-pro Forged Pistons. I didn't put back in the how-did-you-crack-it Pistons.

i would just buy some pistons and rods and reuse the stock crank unless there is something wrong with it.

thanks guys i was looking into eagle forged cranks but damn its too expensive for me and if the_merve bought forged rods and pistons for that much i might as well do taht and keep my stock crank.

That is the same kit I was considering. I think the kit is a very good deal and I think you will be hard pressed trying to find a better deal on another assembly or reusing stock parts. This is the average stock rebuild quote I've been recieving: crank grind $100, stock rods recon $150 w/arp rod bolts, balance $150, pistons & rings kit $200, rod & main bearings, $70, pressing in piston pins $50 = $720 total. The only reason I see not to buy this kit is if you wanted forged pistons for spray or boost.

I paid for Forged and got it balanced. I still run it up to 6300RPM, had no problems with it. I can see getting a lightweight setup, but I would say that it would be more used for goin into the 7000RPM+ area.

how much would it cost in labor to have them bore my block to 355, assemble the bottom end and balance it?

Depends on the Machine Shop. I built my own ****, it's not that hard. They charged me $400 to have the Pistons put on the Rods, and to have everything Balanced. Then they labeled every piston to what one it was, and I put it together.
