Default Crank Question

the guys working on my car called me and said that they took the harmonic balancer pulley off the crank on the old motor and the hub didn't have the little keyslot in it, but the crank did. and there was obviously no key in there on the old engine. they were concerned about putting it on my new engine like that. and the part with the keyslot is discontinued. so my question is.......is this going to be ok on the 383? i mean, the hub is pressed on the front of the crankshaft. i just need some expert opinions here.....

thanks

Stock LT1 crank hub is a keyless hub. Install it just like it was if you plan to use the stock pulley. You can however get a keyed hub/balancer if you wish from ATI....etc.

hey thanks alot Tony. do you think that would ever be necessary to have that key in there, even though it is pressed on? besides just to fill up that key slot.

It will be fine as long as you are not trying to spin a supercharger or something that has a lot of pull from the crank hub.

hmmm........that makes sense

isn't the crank tapered a little where the hub slides on?
