hub,dampener,balancing,keyed?
so there is a balancer hub and a dampener, then there are lightweight dampeners,im confused on what to get?and should these things be balanced at the same time as the internals?
is there a all in one lightweight dampner with the new hub already on it?
what is involved in "keying" the crank for the balancer?

These motors have a separate hub and damper. The crank is keyed but the hub is not. There is a pointer on the hub as to where to index it on the crank. The damper bolts to the hub only one way. This is a zero balanced setup and it shouldn’t matter where you install it on the crank. Most folks will try to get the mark where it belongs.
Looking through the timing cover, you should see the crank timing chain gear. There is a dot on the gear. The pointer on the balancer hub should line up with the crank timing chain gear dot.
You can have the hub keyed by a machine shop and install it with a key.
I recently bought a Fluidampr and it’s a one piece affair like a regular small block damper is. It’s keyed. I believe that any aftermarket damper is a one piece deal and would be keyed.
I just did this install today and I bought a crank key to use. The key fit the damper but not the crank so I installed it without the key. I tried to line up the two keyways as best I could. Also, the stock bolt and washer needed a big fat thick washer under it which I found in my bucket-o-washers assortment.
I’ll be on the phone with Fluidampr this week to inquire about the keyway and bolt/washer upgrade.
Hope this helps
