Default Cap and Rotor indexing question...

I just got my MSD opti today My question is, when you replace the rotor, is is splined onto the opti or do you really have to remember the exact location of where the old one was? I'm concerned because about three years ago, I had my cap and rotor replaced, and ever since, it runs right in the middle on the temp gauge on the freeway. (it used to run just about 3/8 of the way up). If I have any doubts, what is the 100% sure way to know that it is correct? Thanks in advance to anyone who could help me out

I doubt your temps have anything to do with the opti itself. It's more likely you changed something around when you took off the waterpump.

What could of been changed around? Somebody else did the work, and that was the last time anyone touched my car.
