Till they explode......

seriously i wouldn't use one in a performance application much past 6600-6800 rpms...... any motor that can rev past that you probably have enough money in to invest in a better ignition setup...

yeah, I know there are people how have used them to 7000 (ed wright does I believe), but personally if I was going into the high 6000s I would look at the ltcc or delteq setup.

I spoke with an engineer at Bothwell Electronics who designed the optispark and it was tested to 10,000 rpm with 1/2 degree variance. It is a real nice piece in a lab enviroment but not real good in real world applications.

Which is exactly why the delteq/ltcc et al work so well. They allow you to completely isolate the opti from any external atmospheric stimuli by putting a properly sealed cap over it. The sensor variance at high rpm is not the issue, it is the interaction with water/air/electricity that usually screws it up.
