Default Has anybody modified long tube headers for 2.5" collectors?

from what i understand if i had some 1 5/8" long tube headers with 2 1/2" collectors that would be the ideal setup for a daily driver. it will give awesome torque from idle all the way up to 5500 RPM's. But nobody makes a long tube header with 2 1/2" collectors that i know of. the reason everybody makes them with 3" collectors is to move the power up higher in the RPM's from what i understand for drag racing. i want a daily driver with torque everywhere. what do you guys think about this??????? i would like some educated opinions on this before i spend the time making this.

i will probably get some pacesetter long tubes and install 2 1/2" tube into the collector but with a funel shaped lip to help smooth everything out. then have 2 1/2" y pipes until those two meet up and then turn it into a 3" exhaust at the converter and the rest of the way back. what do you guys think? i really need your opintions on this subject.

Here are some links so you will know where i got my information from

Low end torque has more to do with the primary lengths then the collector diameter. In short: go 3". You will not lose torque anywhere assuming you are tuned afterwards.

All you will be doing to yourself is purposly leaving power on the table! Single 2.5" exhaust is not enough flow for even a mildly modded LT1, and changing diameters back and forth like that will most likely hurt you - just like when people hollow out the cat instead of putting a pipe in its place. Just makes turbulence in the exhaust which slows everything down and ruins any type of scavenging effect that was there.

Also, any path of air travel is only going to flow as well as the smallest point - or bottleneck. Going from 3-2.5-3 will be a waste of time since it will never flow more then the 2.5in worth of air.

Stock is 2.75", so you will most likely lose power over even using an ORY w/ stock exhaust.

Stainless Works makes long tube headers with a 2.5 collector.
