Hot cam question...
Ok heres my question, i know this has been coverd many many times...
but
Im trying to decide on a cam, its between the cc503, cc305, and Hot cam, at first i really hated the hot cam, but i think id be happy with 330-335rwhp for now so my questions are...
Is that a safe estimate for the hotcam kit with a tune with 330-335rwhp?
also what rpm would i shift at with this cam...
also could i use stock lifters, as the kit doesnt come with those, i already have 7.2" CC pushrods and a timing kit, so all i would reuse is the Lifters?

i'd go CC503, its a nicer cam for a LT1. more aggressive lobes so it should make abit more power under the curve than the hotcam. its only 15whp off a CC306 sometimes but makes abit more low end power so its a nice choice.
hotcam aint bad but there are better choices. you cant beat the price of the kit tho. they are ok parts tho. i'd get different springs tho. hotcam should be good for 330whp with a good tune on stock heads. i know my buddies car has proby near 300whp with just bolt ons
hotcam should rev out to 5500. shift alittle beyond that. i hear some ppl shifting at 5800 or 6000. same with the 503 cam.... should be done by 5700-6000 i'd say
you can reuse your lifters as long as they are in good shape typically if they are under 100K miles they are good. but if the car is in good shape but has more mileage than that, just inspect the lifters and look for excessive wear

I was trapping 86-87 with a hot cam in my 92 Vette A4. That was full weight with 2.59s on street tires. I sold the car to my buddy, we installed 3.73s and the car was trapping 89.5 in the 1/8th and up to 114 in the 1/4.

In the interest of full disclosure:
I do have the LT4HC but I also have a factory LT4. Power doesnt begin to fall off till 6300-6400, peak occurs around 5900-6000. I've tried many different shift points and I get the best ETs and trap speed by shifting right at the rev limiter. FWIW I do wish I had went a bit larger on the cam but at the time it was about all I could afford and it was my DD at the time too.
IMO, the only advantage the HC has is price. Its not a bad choice though.
