Lifter noise at start up??
A few days ago I started the car and could here lifter noise for about 3 seconds and went away then I started it again today and done the same thing. The car is highly maintained but does have 160K on it with a new cam, lifters, rockers, and so on but the botton end is stock. When I mean the components are new they are with in 5000 miles ago. Should this worry me?? I run Castrol 30 weight (German) and change every 3000 miles. My oil pressure is still good, running down the highway is anywhere from 47-50 psi and at idle 18-22 psi.

Do you have the rockers adjusted way too tight? After you shut your motor off and the oil pressure drops to zero, IF the rockers are too tight, they will compress the lifter a little and push out some of the oil causing a little bit of slack, which will take a second or two for the oil pressure on start up to fill. Or it could be the mains, lol, but that is usually more of a clatter kinda noise for a second or two.

It's not the mains, I've heard that sound before and not for sure if the rockers are too tight. I don't think so but if they were too tight would it have done it from the time I installed the cam?? Why now?? Could it be that I haven't been driving it as much lately? The more it sets the more oil drains to the pan....

Oh I just thought of something, I'm using 0W30 (German) Castrol which is pretty thick oil well we are in the heating season now and since it's getting cold out it probably takes a little longer for the oil to get to the lifters. I think I will switch back to 10W30 and see how that works. Anybody agree???

exhaust leak maybe?? mine is ticking when its cold and it stops when it gets hot. its leaking at the manifold on the right hand side. check each side of the motor and see if you smell exhaust when its cold

change the oil weight for sure, also it could be a crappy oil filter that does not retain pressure very well because that is the first thing the system pressurizes.
