Default Ebay Opti???

Trans AM has been screwed up for almost a year now. It was missing randomly and getting hard to start. So, I figured opti was going out. Took it to the dealership they came back and said it was just fine. Nothing was wrong with the car. It kept getting worse. Took it back again. They said opti was bad. I ordered one off ebay from all_ignition. Anybody have any feedback on these optis? They claim they are genuine AC Delco units. I bought one and installed it along with new plugs and wires. Car is still missing randomly and runs like crap.

Maybe the ignition module? I personally will only buy electrical stuff from place's that I trust. Ebay isn't one of them.

I have one on my workbench, which I have examined. It uses an aftermarket cap and rotor, which may not be all bad. The factory part uses aluminum contacts, these appear to be copper. Can't tell on the optical sensor and photo emitter (the rear part, or distributor part), but I don't see the Delco name anywhere. And it came in a generic box, to boot.
If you look at the picture on ebay, they clearly show two things:
The cap is the wrong color
The box is a plain brown box, with no Delco branding.
Just an FYI for those trying to save a buck.

And someone quizzed them on their claim; what they replied was that they buy the distributor part in bulk from the Delco manufacturer (not Delco themselves) and put their own cap and rotor on it. ebay = caveat empor.

Default PLEASE SEARCH...before you buy and eBay Opti

PLEASE do a search on the various f-body/LT1 forum about optis. If I were you, I'd spend the extra money for a TRUE AC/Delco opti. If not, there's a 50/50 chance you'd regret it.

im thinking of upgrading to the delteq kit... will i be able to use my ebay opti even if it is messing up right now? it is not throwing any codes, so i would assume the sensors are fine and that the problem with it lies within the cap and rotor somewhere. if not i may try and clean up my old stock opti and remove the cap and rotor that are bad on it and use that one... if anybody has pics of the delteq kit installed or any how to articles for it those would be appreciated...

i stay away from important mechanical parts on ebay. alot of ebay stuff is fine but you always run the risk of getting an exceptionally priced turd.

I'll sell you my "awesome" MSD opti with about 10k (if that) on it. It only miss fires all the time and throws DTC 16. But that's not important, because I can adjust the timing!

AC Delco is the way to go. Don't waste money on the MSD, I know I won't do it again.

To the top for a new question... Do you think replacing the cap and rotor off this ebay opti with a new MSD cap and rotor will fix my problems? its not throwing any codes or anything, it just randomly misses. it doesnt miss all the time just every now and then will run on 7 cylinders i believe
