Noob has setup questions (DONT SHOOT ME lol)
hey guys. I had thought about doing an LS1 powered 280z but i have always wanted an fbody so i figured, why not look into it.
as soon as my import project is completed and running well enough that i can sell it, ill be in the market for an LT1 powered Bird... but thats another story.
Anyway.. Ive been doing some snooping around, havent seen alot of people that have gone nuts with the LT1, im not sure if its related to the optispark or not, but that stuff doesnt bother me cause i know it can be fixed.
What im looking at, is a set of Trickflow GenX Street/Strip 195cc heads matched up with an Edelbrock RPM Performer Intake Manifold and a Comp Cams Xtreme Camshaft with a 113lsa, .584/.579 lift and 292/300 dur. 3500 stall converter, 4.10 gear, Pacesetter Longtubes (open but tuned) and of course a nice wheel and tire combo (welds and mickeys)
if i could make 400-450whp on that setup id be happy but i dont know if its possible.
Id appreciate any feedback/corrections if ive looked into anything that would not work well together.
It is going to be pretty much a street driven race car, im not one to care too much for comfort, just wanting to go fast =)

Open headers on a street car is fun but at the same time its annoying. I ran mine for 6 months and you begin to smell like exhaust everytime you drive the car.
As for you goals, you could make 400rw on a good H/C setup, a little more or less depending on if its M6/A4.
And there are lots of good companies that will gladly take your money

Forget this stuff. There's FAR better performing stuff available, some sources were already posted. That Comp cam could be ok with some expensive effort, but Lingenfelter, LE both have much better choices available.
As for open headers.... bad idea. Noisy and obnoxious, and won't make any more power than a good exhaust. It'll cost you mod money in the form of noise tickets, and tickets you get just because they noticed you a mile away.
Trans whether manual or auto is t56 or 4L60E from 94-97; 93s are oddballs. 98 up trans won't fit. There is a sponsor that rebuilds the t56, and the auto can be made to handle good power.
Rear end might be a concern with 400+ and an M6. 12 bolt, S60, or 9 inch are possible solutions; the fbody versions go 2200 and up.
Oh... and the reason people don't often go nuts on an LTx is because it typically costs more than to mod an LSx.
