Supercharger

Supercharger
I want to do a supercharger on my 97 ta but I am afraid of the fact that it has 135,000 miles. I know they were mostly highway miles due to this being a one owner car but I want to make sure it can handle it. I have a cai cb and pacesetter lt's and it runs like a beast with 135 k. Can my car handle a little boost?

Im sure your car wil handle a supercharger for a little while, wont last very long tho im sure, could just stick the money from the cost of a supercharger redoing the motor and you will be better off. imagine putting a supercharger on your car and messing up your motor...your out a motor and you cant use the supercharger you just bought.

sure can. how long? there's really no way to tell exactly. Do a compression test to find out how healthy the bottom end is.
try a search.. this question has been asked time and time again...

my 97 trans am has 121,000 i installed a supercharger @113,000 but replaced the head gasket and all the upper gaskets. The only problem i see you have is the rear main seal with begin to leak. My supercharge puts out about 9 pounds of boost @ 6000 rpms.
GOOD LUCK

Forget the blower. LT1's and blower's do not go together with the stock engine.
11:1 383 rebuild, Ported heads/intake along with some nice LT's and you'll be very happy

He's saying F**** the blower and build a na 383, it will be faster anyways. Not to mention easier to work on, less heat soak etc. I had a p1sc runnin 8lbs of boost. It took about 5000mi before my stock 36,000mi lt1 took a poop. It was still makin 426whp with 25% compression loss in #8. I would maybe run nitrous with high miles, but definately no boost. If your set on going FI, then pull the motor, bore .30 over, recondition the crank and rods, JE forged pistons, Port stock heads and intake, custom grind cam, supporting valvetrain. Then go with a D1sc procharger. You should make 550whp +

I suggest Procharger but make sure you get a good tune and a meth kit will definately help out. Remember forced induction can be very expensive (ask me how I know) but I will never go back to all motor or a bottle.

Like anything else, you're eventually going to run into brick walls as far as what
the stock components will handle. N/A, N20, Blower, Turbo ... they all end up having
to drop some coin at some point (usually around the 450-500rwhp mark)
If you want to go faster than that will carry you, you have to bite the bullet and build
the bottom end (and drivetrain) to handle it.
There are pros and cons to each setup, I won't go into detail and start a debate here
but eventually you reach a point in the path where you are making decisions that
have dramatic impacts on driveability under different road conditions.
Now, to answer the OP's original question.
Yes, you can run a supercharger on a motor with 135k if it's in good shape. (You'll find out pretty quick if it's not)
You're not going to get more than maybe 6-8psi out of it though. (that would be the brick wall I mentioned)
At that point, you can either drive it until something breaks or build it to handle more boost now.
It's all up to you.

If you live your entire life at WOT then it won't last that long. If you use this car daily and only boost the hell out of it every now and then I honestly think you'll have good luck if you use your head and run conservative numbers. Bottom line, big numbers are big bucks!
