swapping input shafts

Default swapping input shafts

Can anyone give me any insight as to the difficulty in swapping the front shaft from a 97 lt1 6speed with a ls1 input shaft. I am installing the 97 t56 behind my 2002 ls1 in a 1956 belair and dont want to screw anything up but i havent been able to find any manuals online that shows the precedure

Its not that hard . Do you have a new front plate to swap as well ?

There were a few write-ups on this forum, some with pics, of doing it by just removing the front plate. You'll have to check/set the 3 shim values, because you'll have a new shaft and plate and different clearances.

If your LT1 trans is stock and has a few miles on it, you may want to just tear it all down by the manual, and put new CF blockers, fork pads, 3/4 fork, billet keys, etc. and start off fresh.

no I only have my original front plate as long as i change bearings,races,and the seal I should be ok shouldnt I?

Not sure what you're asking exactly. But the hyd slave of the LS1 uses a different front plate than the fork/TOB of the LT1, so you have to change the front plate at the same time you change input shafts. Then you have to recheck the shims since you've mix parts.

I have an aftermarket hydraulic throw out from classic chevy that has its own adsjustment and just slides on the shaft with no attatchment to the tranny it is for installling a ls1 in a hot rod application
